I am tired of the seeing the mess we all get ourselves into almost entirely because of this profound and ubiquitous misconception.
Love is not a force that acts upon us. It is not something we must wait for. It is not something we idly hope will remain in us. It is not something that binds us to a person we didn’t choose. And neither is it something that diminishes or departs from us at its own will, leaving us stranded.
Love is not something that happens to us.
Love is something that we do. Love is something that we can choose.
And when we realise that we can choose who to love, when to love, and how to love – when we realise how free we in fact are – then we will really be free to love.
